Summary
The article analyses Dubravka Ugresic’s novel entitled The Museum of Unconditional Surrender from
the perspective of cognitive cultural theories. The analysis localises the most important conceptual
metaphors of identity in the novel and their invalidity in exile. The mapping of identity occurs
through the refiguration of the narrative sequence that gives meaning to the concept of identity,
while being outside this space, i.e. exile appears as the lack of sense, existence in a world of
unrelated fragments.
